Becky is a national literacy consultant that has been in education for 26 years. She has worked with teachers as a consultant, mentor, and coach for the past 20 years to develop literate classrooms where the voices of learners are heard through reading, conversations and writing. Growing up as an at-risk student in Texas has given her insight in creating a classroom where learners from all backgrounds find a place in which they can grow and feel strong as learners. She is the mother of five children ranging from ages 17 to 34, which gives her an interesting and realistic perspective about literacy instruction in schools today. In September of 2017 she and her husband welcomed their first grandchild with books galore!

Elizabeth began her career in education in 1996. She has a Master’s Degree in Reading and Literacy, and has been working in the area of staff development for over ten years with seven years of full time consulting work nationally. Elizabeth’s enthusiasm for her work is infectious, and her practical approach to balanced literacy instruction has helped thousands of educators launch and maintain Readers’ and Writers’ Workshop in their classrooms. Her instructional scope also covers comprehension and strategy instruction, guided reading, shared reading, and word study. Elizabeth’s work is based on a love for literacy and a vision for empowering teachers to become confident in their ability to foster literacy development in their students.
