This one day workshop is not to be missed if you have readers that read inside of these levels during your school year.  Whether you are a 1st grade teacher with stronger readers or a 5th grade teacher with students reading inside of these levels, this workshop will provide you with insight on how to raise the rigor and engagement of these readers by introducing them into series books between levels I-Q.  We will show you how to take the known aspects within series book reading to support your readers in thinking forward in texts, understanding what to possibly expect from a stock character, and using their prior experiences to comprehend more deeply. We will talk about ways to rally your readers to dig deep across a series to develop theories about the characters as well as what to count on from the author.  We are SUPER excited about this one!!

Poetry and Shared Reading and Planning for Interactive Read Aloud Grades K-1 June 27, 2018

Cost $175 per person

Morton Ranch Elementary

2502 N Mason Rd,

Katy, TX 77449

In this one day workshop Becky will show you how to get the bang for your buck through Focus Poetry, songs and Shared Reading and Interactive Read Aloud. These teaching methods create opportunities to explore language and literature with your whole class. Oral language, listening comprehension and fluency are big issues for many teachers.   Rhyme, repetition and rhythm are essential to support phonological awareness, phonemic awareness, and fluency in developing readers. We will look at using poems and texts appropriate for shared reading to support not only these aspects of language but also answer the questions of how to embed the teaching of reading strategies that support print work and comprehension as well as exploring the use of grammar, punctuation, poetry elements and literary devices inside of text! We will learn about choosing literature and planning a read aloud to support conversation and listening skills as well as how to support comprehension strands of reading.  Registration fee includes materials to get you started and handout.  Whew!  This will be a packed day of goodness!
